GMO: who is at risk?

consumers
all of us who eat food
that may contain GMOs
There is no safety testing or labeling and we do not know the effects of eating GM food. Claims by biotech industry that these foods are “safe” have no ground. Inserting genes from bacteria, viruses, animals and insects into food has never been done before. The FDA, and many scientists and doctors all warn that GM food will create new toxins, allergies, nutritional problems, new diseases and resistant strains that will be difficult to identify and treat.
Because there is no labeling, there is no way to monitor health effects. Only two independent animal feeding studies have been conducted, both of which concluded damage to the immune system and vital organs, potential pre-cancerous conditions, stomach lesions and early death in animal test subjects. It is for this reason GMO is being banned in the rest of the world.
local/regional/global residents
of farming communities
Air born pollen can travel up to 40 miles. In Hawaii, there are experimental fields next to schools and housing communities. There are no studies or conclusions about human contact with contaminated pollen. These concerns are especially true for farmers and people who work in the fields.
our environment and ecosystem
“Coexistence equals contamination”
–Natural plant species cannot coexist with GMOs- Genetically Engineered species take over. There is no way to reverse this process other than to stop growing GE food or to keep it contained in a laboratory.
Because GE food is not regulated, monitored, or labeled, there have been few opportunities to study the health risks associated from eating GMO or living near active GE field crops. Concern is rising, as are our voices. Now is the only time to protect and grow our future for the generations to come.
