What we put in our bodies finds it way to our skin. What we eat reflects in our skin – for the better and worse. Clean food and water are pure beautifying agents – especially healthy oils...

natural beauty face care tips

Facial skin is the most delicate
and exposed skin on our bodies.
4 Less is more – a gentle cleanser, toner only if and when you need, and the right moisturizer to fit your needs.
4 Apply moisturizer while face is damp – it will go farther and absorb better.
4 Apply in an upward circular motion. If you have oily skin, don’t massage too much – it stimulates the oil glands to produce more sebum, the last thing oily skin needs.
4 Be Gentle! Especially around the eyes. Pat moisturizer or eye-cream beneath the eyes from the outer corner in instead of rubbing. Rubbing and tugging stretches skin and it can’t stretch back.
4 Avoid putting cream on your eye lids at night – it will reduce puffiness of eyes in the morning.

dry skin brushing

Our skin is a cleansing organ and eliminate up to one pound of impurities every day. The key to helping this process is keeping pores clear and open

Brushing the whole body with a fairly firm brush with natural bristles helps skin stay fresh, new and soft. A dry skin brush can be purchased readily in the health & beauty section (usually near the vitamins) of most health food stores.

beauty benefits
4 Lets skin breathe and regenerate! – Brushes away dead skin and residue from lotion, soap, oil and other products.
4 Improves circulation.
4 Improves lymph function which helps flush toxins from the body.
4 Reduces ingrown hair, especially in sensitive areas that are shaved or waxed, like armpits and bikini line.
4 Reduces cellulite. Although genetically predisposed, cellulite is partially a result of toxic waste lodged in fatty tissue when lymph fluid does not flow properly.
4 A sweet opportunity to connect with your whole body, check out what is going on in the nooks and crannies that are easily ignored.

how to do it!

Natural bristles only please! – nylon bristles can damage skin.
Best done just before a shower or bath – can be done daily (I do!).
Pass the brush over the whole body with reasonable firmness in short strokes or in small circles. Some health practitioners recommend brushing up the arms and legs and down the torso towards the stomach and intestines.  Work up to a firm pressure over a few weeks.  The purpose is to invigorate the skin, but not to damage it. A much softer brush or natural sponge should be used on the tender skin of face and neck – and for some women, the breasts.  This skin is delicate and should be respected.  I personally do not brush my face, though perform a gentle massage with my fingers, moistened with a good face cream, careful not to pull and stretch the skin especially around the eyes.

hot-cold: key to youth
Using hot and cold water is an age-old, age-defying custom to revitalize and invigorate the body and cultivate Qi (chi/life-force).

A sauna or steam followed by a cold plunge, shower or roll in the snow is a prescription to stay young, spirited and vibrant.

A personal mini-practice can be performed at the end of a nice, steamy shower – turn off the hot and turn up the cold! Take ten deep breaths and add years to your life. I promise, it is so good!
